The Raving Jaynes: Improvised Dance/Theater

The Raving Jaynes:Improvised Dance/Theater is a highly physical improv duo that creates spontaneous theater for intimate spaces. Weaving together techniques from clown, dance and improv, the performers, Jamie Graham and Amy Larimer, play between mediums. Movement, text and sound are twisted together to transform what waits in the empty space into sweaty stories.  Nothing is choreographed! Nothing is scripted!

We believe the practice of improvisation has the power to open us to experiences beyond our habitual patterns of body and mind. In our workshops and performances we celebrate the release of the secret, strange worlds that move through each of us. Through the act of spontaneous creation, we aim to create a space where the sacred and profane, natural and fantastic, vulnerable, flawed, ridiculous and hopeful are freed to mingle in a field of imagination and play.

The Raving Jaynes perform regularly at the PIT in New York City, teach workshops and are advocates for the art of improvisation as a performance practice. They have been presented at IMPRO Amsterdam; the Abundance Festival in Karlstad, Sweden; Big City Improv Festival in Toronto; TCIF in Minneapolis; the ADaPT Festival in Santa Barbara; Big City Improv in Toronto; Built on Stilts in Martha’s Vineyard; The Crisis Art Festival in Arezzo, Italy; The Comedy in Dance Festival at Triskelion Arts; Dancemopolitan at Joe's Pub; The District Improv Festival in D.C.; Duofest in Philadelphia; The NYC Improv Festival; The Unscripted New York Improvised Theatre Festival, The Out of Bounds Comedy Festival in Austin; Your Move in Jersey City and The Tank.

“Jamie Graham and Amy Larimer are the real deal: sharp, witty, gorgeous, and utterly unique.” Dance Enthusiast

"To call The Raving Jaynes a unique blend of dance and improvisation would be an insufficient description; for they have truly wed the two art forms into one." Improvisation News.
